Frequently Asked Questions about the Colorguard:
What are the costs and fees associated with being a member of the colorguard?

The costs and fees sheet for 2010-2011 will be handed out the first day of tryouts. They are included in the Try-Out Packet. Typically, first year members can be expected to spend the most because they are new to the team. Costs usually involve Team Apparel, Team Footwear, Camp Fees, Uniform Fees, and other misc fees. Returning members can be expected to pay a lot less each year due to being able to reuse many items from the previous year.

For example: a returning JV member typically has only camp and campwear fees in her returning JV year, a new Varsity member has varisty member fees in addition to camp and campwear, and a returning Varsity member has only camp and campwear fees.

I heard the colorguard attends a summer camp. Is camp mandatory?

This year the colorguard will be attending Camp at home. We are putting together a camp schedule full of dance and flag technique, football and competition routines. Camp will be Thursday, July 29 thru Sunday, August 1. Camp is considered Mandatory for all members. Camp promotes team unity, builds essential flag skills and teaches routines that will later be used by the JV during football season and at professional performing events.

Can I be in Marching Band and Colorguard?

Yes, you can be in Marching Band and Colorguard at the same time.  JV Colorguard Members perform with the colorguard at the JV Football game, then with the Marching Band during the Varsity Football game.  Varsity Colorguard Members perform with the Marching Band during pregame and with the Colorguard during half-time of the Varsity Football game.

Can I be in another Sport/Activity while on the Colorguard?

Yes, you can be in another sport or activity while on the Colorguard.  Members have participated in Rugby, Badmitton, Tennis, Golf, Theater, Choir, Band, and other after-school Activities, Clubs and Sports. However, we do ask that you do not participate in a Sport or Activity that conflicts with our practice schedule or performance dates.

Tentative practice schedule for Summer: 7:30-9 PM, Mondays and 6:45-8:30 AM Wednesdays. Tentative practice schedule for Fall/Winter: Tues/Thurs 6-9 PM (JV) and Tu/Thurs 6-9 PM (Varsity). Being tardy or missing an excessive number of practices may drop you into an alternate position on the team. Please consider the commitment carefully before trying out.

What is the Colorguard? What do they do?

The Colorguard is the Flag Team at the high school and is a year-round activity. The Colorguard currently has a JV Team and a Varsity Team. The team members learn various skills which are later choreographed into routines. The routines are performed at professional events such as the Kane County Cougars and the Kane County Eagles. The teams also perform at high school football games, assemblies, parades, and select basketball games.  From mid-November to mid-March the Colorguard competes in the Illinois Drill Team Association (IDTA) competition circuit, and are the reining  IDTA State Champions in the AAA Lyrical Flag category, AAA Tall Flag category, and the AAA Short Flag Category.
